Buying the animal is the part you pay once. Over the first year, food, veterinary care and grooming through a humid climate will each rival or exceed it, and almost nobody budgets for the third one.
Food
A steady monthly cost that scales with the size of the animal. Buying smaller quantities through the monsoon costs slightly more per kilo and wastes far less.
Veterinary
The first year carries the vaccination course, deworming, and usually one unplanned visit. Registering with a clinic early does not reduce the cost but it improves what you get for it.
Grooming
In this climate a long-coated animal needs professional grooming on a schedule, not when it looks untidy. Factor it in before choosing the coat.
The things people forget
A carrier. Sealed food storage. Bedding that will need replacing. Boarding or a sitter if you travel. None is large on its own; together they are not trivial.
What this means for the purchase decision
A cheaper animal with missing health records is not cheaper. The saving disappears at the first vet visit, and it tends to arrive early.
