A Cockatiel in a Manjri home

People assume the constraint is square footage. It is usually storage - where the food goes, where the carrier lives, where a wet bird dries off in August. Solve those three and a Cockatiel settles into a Manjri flat with less friction than you would guess.

The monsoon, honestly

moderate Deccan, which is a polite way of saying the rain arrives and does not leave. A small bird coming in wet twice a day needs a towel routine and somewhere to dry that is not the bed. Fungal trouble in a Cockatiel starts in exactly the places you stop checking.

Choosing between breeds

The Cockatiel is gentle and lives around 15-20 Years. Both facts should sit in the decision. A breed that suits a household at thirty may not suit the same household at forty, and this is a long commitment in a city that moves people around.

Vets, boosters and finding help quickly

Register with a vet before you need one. In a city this size the difference between a clinic that knows your Cockatiel and one meeting it during an emergency is considerable. Do it in the first fortnight, while nothing is wrong.

Walking a small breed in a crowded city

Early mornings are the honest answer. The pavements are passable, the surface is cool enough for paws, and a gentle Cockatiel gets to work through its energy before the day starts. Evening walks are for company rather than exercise.

The cost, and the cost after that

From ₹3,078. Listings well below that usually turn out to be missing the health work, and the saving evaporates at the first vet visit. Budget a similar amount again for year one.

Vets, records and the monsoon

Every Cockatiel leaves with its health record complete — vaccinations, deworming and a pre-listing check. Register with a Manjri vet in the first fortnight, while nothing is wrong: the difference between a clinic that knows your bird and one meeting it during an emergency is considerable.
