Choosing between breeds

The Cockatiel is calm and lives around 15-20 Years. Both facts should sit in the decision. A breed that suits a household at thirty may not suit the same household at forty, and this is a long commitment in a city that moves people around.

A Cockatiel in a Kodawadi home

Space in Kodawadi is measured carefully, and a small bird has to fit into a plan that was already tight. The good news is that a Cockatiel cares far less about floor area than about whether anyone is in the room. Households here manage this breed in genuinely small flats, and manage it well.

Walking a small breed in a crowded city

Early mornings are the honest answer. The pavements are passable, the surface is cool enough for paws, and a calm Cockatiel gets to work through its energy before the day starts. Evening walks are for company rather than exercise.

The monsoon, honestly

Ask anyone who has raised a Cockatiel through a Pune monsoon and they will mention the paws first. comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward Rinse and dry between the pads after every walk from June onward. It takes a minute and prevents the thing that costs a vet visit.

The cost, and the cost after that

From ₹4,841. Listings well below that usually turn out to be missing the health work, and the saving evaporates at the first vet visit. Budget a similar amount again for year one.

Health and handover
