What it costs, and what it keeps costing

From ₹28,837. Listings well below that usually turn out to be missing the health work, and the saving evaporates at the first vet visit. We would rather quote the real figure and explain what is in it.

Choosing between breeds

If you are weighing the Yellow Monk against something else, compare coat and energy rather than looks. In this climate a heavy coat is real work, and a small bird with more energy than your schedule has hours will be unhappy in a way that no amount of affection fixes.

A Yellow Monk in a Nariman Point home

Space in Nariman Point is measured carefully, and a small bird has to fit into a plan that was already tight. The good news is that a Yellow Monk cares far less about floor area than about whether anyone is in the room. Households here manage this breed in genuinely small flats, and manage it well.

Vets, boosters and finding help quickly

Keep the vaccination card and the clinic number in the same place. A small bird on a booster schedule needs the original dates, and the person covering for you on a weekend will need both without having to ask.

The monsoon, honestly

mild tropical plateau, which is a polite way of saying the rain arrives and does not leave. A small bird coming in wet twice a day needs a towel routine and somewhere to dry that is not the bed. Fungal trouble in a Yellow Monk starts in exactly the places you stop checking.

The cost, and the cost after that

From ₹28,837. Listings well below that usually turn out to be missing the health work, and the saving evaporates at the first vet visit. Budget a similar amount again for year one.

Vets, records and the monsoon

Every Yellow Monk leaves with its health record complete — vaccinations, deworming and a pre-listing check. Register with a Nariman Point vet in the first fortnight, while nothing is wrong: the difference between a clinic that knows your bird and one meeting it during an emergency is considerable.
