Choosing between breeds

Talk to us before you decide rather than after. We would rather place a different dog with you and have it work than sell you the Shih Tzu you asked for and hear about it in six months.

What it costs, and what it keeps costing

From ₹24,438. Listings well below that usually turn out to be missing the health work, and the saving evaporates at the first vet visit. We would rather quote the real figure and explain what is in it.

The monsoon, honestly

comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward Four months of the year, everything about owning a Shih Tzu here is shaped by water - walks get shorter, drying becomes a daily ritual, and skin problems that would be trivial elsewhere turn stubborn if ignored. Plan for it rather than being surprised by it each June.

A Shih Tzu in a Cumballa Hill home

People assume the constraint is square footage. It is usually storage - where the food goes, where the carrier lives, where a wet dog dries off in August. Solve those three and a Shih Tzu settles into a Cumballa Hill flat with less friction than you would guess.

Walking a small breed in a crowded city

Keep the dog on the inside, away from the road, and accept that a Cumballa Hill walk is a training session rather than a stroll. A Shih Tzu learns the city fast when it is walked deliberately and never learns it at all when it is dragged.

Vets, records and the monsoon

Every Shih Tzu leaves with its health record complete — vaccinations, deworming and a pre-listing check. Register with a Cumballa Hill vet in the first fortnight, while nothing is wrong: the difference between a clinic that knows your dog and one meeting it during an emergency is considerable.
