The sun conure is one of the more popular conures within its size range, owing to its striking plumage, unique disposition, and usefulness as a pet bird. The sun conure measures about 12 inches long and is best identified by its bright orange and yellow colouring, often splotched with green.
The sun conure has a black beak, white eyering and a long, tapering tail. Easily bred, the sunny's open, joyful disposition and bright plumage endear it to pet owners and seasoned aviculturists alike. Immature birds take about two years to attain full colouration. Although the colours between the sexes are very close, males are reported to be slightly more brilliant.
